Home interior design in Dubai means one thing in a studio and another in a five-bedroom villa, but the fee is built the same way each time: a share of the project, a rate for the floor area or a flat sum. Below are the figures Dubai firms publish for each kind of home, read in September 2026, and what a designer delivers for them.

What does an interior designer do?

Five things, in order. The designer takes a brief, turns it into a concept and a layout, draws it in enough detail for a contractor to price, specifies every finish and fitting, and checks the work on site if that is in the contract. The deliverables have names you should see in a proposal:

• A concept or mood board and a furniture layout for each room.
• 3D views, so you approve the look before anything is ordered.
• Working drawings for ceilings, lighting, joinery, flooring and wall finishes.
• A finishes and furniture schedule with products named, not described.
• Site visits and snag lists, if agreed and priced.

In a managed community those drawings do a second job. Emaar's home modification checklist asks for a detailed scope of works, current photographs, proposed floor plans, elevations and sections where relevant, and 3D visualisations of the change, along with the contractor's or consultant's Dubai trade licence. Ask whether preparing that file is inside the design fee; the designer fees page breaks that fee down by method.

What are the 70/30 and 3-5-7 rules in interior design?

They are two rules of thumb that design guides repeat and clients ask about. The 70/30 rule splits a room between a main style or colour at about 70 percent and an accent at 30. The 3-5-7 rule groups accessories in odd numbers of three, five or seven. Neither is a regulation and neither changes a quote. A designer who uses them should still hand you drawings and a schedule that a contractor can price.

Which rules apply inside a Dubai home?

The authority asks for little inside a home, and the owner's consent is the one constant. New floors, doors, paint and suspended ceilings count as simple maintenance to Dubai Municipality, permit-free when an accredited contractor does them, and a tenant needs the owner's sign-off before any décor work. Developers add their own lines. Emaar apartments may not remove walls or existing tiles, and Dubai Holding Community Management asks for a Minor Modifications Permit, valid for up to seven days, for any work in its communities that runs longer than a day. Designing a single room is common and priced like any other design job. Studio 11 publishes room design at AED 40,000 to 120,000 for a living room, AED 50,000 to 150,000 for a kitchen and AED 30,000 to 100,000 for a bathroom. For advice without drawings, Algedra lists one-off consultations at AED 2,000 to 6,000. Kitchens and bathrooms are specialist jobs with their own sites: kitchen renovation and bathroom renovation.
