What stretches a lead time?

Imported materials, a fabric on order, veneer matched across a run of doors, a shop drawing revised after sign-off, a colour sample that needs a second round. Each adds its own wait. Ask the workshop to list which parts of the order depend on imported items and to date them separately, so one late fabric does not hold back a finished wardrobe.

Community approvals and delivery windows

Build these into the delivery date. A workshop that finishes on time can still lose a week to a move booking that needed five business days' notice. Fitters entering an Emaar community also need an entry permit from ecmpermits.ae, whether or not the job needs an NOC.

Fitting is the last and shortest step, and the one most tied to the building: the noisy-work window, the lift booking and the fitter's entry permit. Plan one visit to fit and a second to adjust doors and drawers once the piece has settled into the room's air, and hold back part of the payment until the snag list is closed. What the quote should promise

• Production time in weeks from the day you sign the shop drawings, rather than from the deposit.
• Which items are imported, each with its own date.
• The delivery and fitting slots, and who books them with the building.
